Zombies, Shakespeare, fireworks and saunas

Darren and I had a lovely semi-relaxing weekend. Semi-relaxing because I appear to be bone tired again - and it's 11.10am on Monday morning!

The highlights were Zombie night at his friend Katie's on Friday, watching open-air Shakespeare at Tyntesfield (Twelfth Night = hilarious), watching the fireworks for the Harbourside festival from the Clifton suspension bridge and spending the afternoon in the gym on Sunday (finishing with the sauna and steam room). Actually - that doesn't sound so relaxing now - we appear to have done quite a lot!

Zombie night was fun - although I do hate zombie films (I believe that they exist). It was nice to watch film with a house full of people - with all the screaming and jumping that only George Romero can elicit. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves, but the vodka jelly was so strong it destroyed a room of hard drinking barristers. About 50% of us passed out due to overindulgence in jelly. It turns out that vodka jelly creates zombies. Hmmm.

After a Saturday at the Harbourside festival, being slightly drizzled on (and buying lovely continental foodstuffs), D and I did not hold out much hope for being able to visit Tyntesfield in the evening for our open-air Shakespeare. However, the gods of weather smiled upon us, and whilst the weather was indeed a long way from perfect - it was dry enough for us (and our newly purchased continental picnic) to venture up to Tyntesfield. It was well worth it! We saw the Lord Chamberlain's Men's production of Twelfth Night - which was fabulous. A very amusing (although admittedly poorly plotted) cross-dressing gender confused romp. I would recommend the play - but only if done by such a talented company. It would have been fun to watch them do just about anything - perhaps even a Pinter.

On the way, we drove back home over the suspension bridge and watched the fireworks. It was actually quite nice (because I couldn't hear them) and rather romantic.

Sunday Darren and I visited the Thali Cafe and ate fantatsic curries and delightful tiffin. Yummers. In retrospect this may have been a mistake, as we then popped first to Ikea and then to the gym. Curry and gyms are not a good combination! It was great being in the gym with D - we really spurred each other on! I think we blew it afterwards, however, by eating a lot of (mediocre) pan-Asian food at the (poor) restaurant downstairs.

Anyway - it was a good weekend on the whole - but now I am looking forward to the next one!!
